Shockwave
Shockwave therapy is a brilliant technology that has grown in popularity over the last five years. It is a non-invasive treatment that stimulates the body’s natural healing process. It can relieve pain and promote healing of injured tendons, ligaments, and other soft tissues. It accomplishes this by releasing growth factors in the injured tissue. Some degenerative tendinopathies have an associated buildup of calcium in the tendon. Focused shock waves can break those deposits up. Shockwave therapy is sometimes referred to as extracorporeal pulse activation technology.
At Surrey Physio, we have been using shockwave for several years and now can offer this at our practice in Farnborough. Shockwave can be uncomfortable, but we will use an appropriate strength to manage any soreness that you may experience. Shockwave can be very effective for conditions such as tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, shoulder tendonitis, Achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, trochanteric bursitis, hamstring insertional tendinopathy, exostoses of the small hand joints, and patella tendonitis. Typically shockwave treatment requires 3-4 sessions to be effective.
